Night Guards

Mouthguards are devices used to protect your teeth from grinding or clenching while you sleep or from injuries while you play sports. They can also help to reduce snoring and relieve obstructive sleep apnea.

Custom-made mouthguards provide a much better fit than either a stock or boil-and-bite mouthguard does, which makes them more comfortable and harder to accidentally dislodge while you’re sleeping.

If you grind your teeth, snore, or have sleep apnea, a custom-made mouthguard is your best option. While they’re more expensive than over-the-counter mouthguards, many dental insurance plans cover some or all of the cost.

Stop the grind, you might be causing tooth sensitivity!

No matter how good you are to your teeth all day, there’s a common condition that could be harming your teeth at night: teeth grinding. You may not have any idea that you’re doing it, but once you know the symptoms, you might be surprised.

Grinding your teeth at night can have subtle symptoms. Most people simply notice that they’re waking up stressed with a sore, painful jaw and sensitive teeth. They also often report having a persistent headache that lasts until midday. And because these symptoms can often go overlooked, the nightly grinding continues and lots of unseen damage is done to your teeth.

Teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) is just another way our bodies react to stress, but if left unchecked, it can cause major tooth sensitivity, which is both painful and stressful. The damage happens slowly over time: grinding creates tiny cracks in the enamel of your teeth. Eventually dentin, the sensitive layer under your enamel, becomes exposed and makes your teeth vulnerable to hot and cold temperatures.

Don’t let one problem lead to another. If you suspect you may be grinding your teeth, discuss this with Dr. Ho so he can check for signs and possibly prescribe you a nightguard. This should help both you and your teeth get a good night’s sleep.

The benefits of protecting your teeth and jaws are:

  • Drug-free (no medication)
  • Reduces grinding clenching, jaw pain, depression and sleeplessness
  • Protects your investments in fillings, crowns, implants and veneers
  • Natural teeth are protected from advanced wear
  • Comfortable: many patients say they sleep better with their nightguard than without it.
