Peri-implantitis (Implant Infection)
The initial symptoms of peri-implantitis are similar to gingivitis. The gingiva is red, swollen and easy to bleed. In severe cases, the implant will become loose, resulting in failure of the implant. Patients with peri-implantitis may have uncontrolled periodontal disease, causing bacterial infection of jaw and other teeth.
Depending on the severity of the infection, treatments of peri-implantitis can be non-surgical or surgical approaches.
